December 18, 2007   PETROECUADOR: Awards Projector Diesel Supply Contract Ecuadorian state-owned oil firm Petroecuador said in a statement that it has granted Projector a contract to supply Ecuador with 1.2 million barrels of diesel. Business News Americas relates that Projector presented a US$6.45-per-barrel bid, while Astra offered US$7.68 per barrel. Three were eight bidders during the auction. The first shipment of 200,000 barrels will be in Jan. 3, 2008. Petroecuador, according to published reports, is faced with cash-problems.  The state-oil firm has no funds for maintenance, has no funds to repair pumps in diesel, gasoline and natural gas refineries, and has no capacity to pay suppliers and vendors. The government refused to give the much-needed cash alleging inefficiency and non-transparency in Petroecuador's dealings.
